Representative sagittal and transaxial 18F-florbetaben positron emission tomography (PET) images of two female mild cognitive impairment participants, both of the same age (73 years old) and with the same Mini-Mental State Examination score of 27. While the PET images on the left show nonspecific retention in white matter, the PET images on the right show high cortical 18F-florbetaben retention in the typical pattern seen in Alzheimer's disease, with highest retention in the precuneus/posterior cingulate, frontal and lateral temporal cortices.
